There’s been a flurry of exciting hotel openings in Scotland’s capital recently—from the Fingal floating hotel and the design-centric Market Street Hotel to the upcoming InterContinental Edinburgh George Street, which is slated to debut this summer. Now, the Red Carnation Hotel Collection is joining the fray. The group—founded by president Beatrice Tollman with the philosophy “no request is too large, no detail too small”—has properties in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, South Africa, Guernsey and Switzerland.
Scotland has long been on Tollman’s radar, and Red Carnation recently announced plans to open a new luxury hotel in Edinburgh in 2020. This will be the very first hotel in Scotland for the hospitality group and the 19th property in its portfolio. The idea is to create a “highly exclusive retreat,” to quote the official press release, replicating the boutique ambiance of Hotel 41 in London.
Red Carnation chose a prime piece of real estate located at 100 Princes Street. According to BBC News, this seven-story building was previously home to the Royal Over-Seas League, a private members club, until 2017. This is a prestigious address on the city’s most famous street, in a central location with sweeping views of Edinburgh Castle. Red Carnation is planning a multimillion dollar renovation of this historic listed building, recruiting top local artisans for the job. As stated in the press release, the family-owned Red Carnation group aims to to make it the number one hotel in Edinburgh. Expect brand signatures like Tollman’s recipes on the restaurant menu.
