A Female Bengal Tiger
A Female Bengal Tiger in the Ranthambore Wildlife Preserve in India

Wildlife seekers listen up: Earlier this year the Supreme Court of India placed a ban on tiger tourism. Good news, though. We hear the ban has been lifted and visitors can continue to look for these beasts of the jungle.

Wild Planet Adventures has launched a new 19-day safari, Untamed India and Nepal, to take advantage of the recently lifted ban. The safari visits Satpura and Bandhavgarh, as well as Chambal riverside wildlife sanctuary and includes cultural and spiritual experiences on the Ganges in Varanasi, the erotic temples of Khajuraho and the Buddhist stupas of Kathmandu.

We heard from Abercrombie & Kent that for the majority of the time that the ban was in place, the parks in India were closed for monsoon season. The luxury tour operator thought it would have to cancel the November 4 departure of one of its Marco Polo Club Invitationals—India: Tigers, Taj & Traditions—but that was not needed. A&K continues to visit Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Panna national parks.

With the ban now lifted, Greaves Tours updated its suggested Jungle Journey itinerary, using the newest properties like Taj and &Beyond Mahua Kothi in Bandhavgarh, Banjaar Tola Lodge in Kanha and Oberoi’s Vanyavilas in Ranthambore. Greaves has also advised its clients that one of the changes to come out of the recent closures is that the parks are all closed on Wednesdays.
