Ashford Castle has Reopened for the Summer

Ashford Castle

We’ve been keeping tabs on the extensive restoration project of the 13th century Ashford Castle, one of the most talked-about castle hotels in Europe. Now part of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection, Ashford Castle debuted new suites in January, followed by 30 renovated guest rooms, public areas, and a new library in March, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. The overhaul also focused on the castle’s infrastructure (stonework, roof), adding contemporary technology (like wifi in every room).

Now open for the summer months, Ashford Castle is reporting that its gardens (including the herb garden) are in full bloom. (Many of these plants are used in the kitchen, and flowers adorn finger sandwiches at Afternoon Tea.) The castle will remain open until October 2014, when the third and final stage of the restoration will refurbish the remaining guest rooms. Red Carnation expects the work to be complete in March 2015 prior to the big birthday party (75th year as a hotel!) in May 2015. For more information, visit www.ashfordcastle.com
