New York City has been buzzing this week with the news that the annual Macy's Fourth of July fireworks celebration would be moved back to the East River after five years of lighting up the Hudson. Courtesy of Time Out New York, here are several places with top views of the display along both sides of the river...
Brooklyn Bridge Park
Main St. (at Fulton Ferry Landing)
Brooklyn Heights and Brooklyn Promenade
Columbia Heights, (between Middagh and Montague Sts)
This esplanade has "postcard-ready views of lower Manhattan," as TONY describes them, and also offers clear views of the river.
South Street Seaport
19 Fulton St., at Front St.
This popular neighborhood attracts locals and tourists alike, and offers outdoor concerts throughout the summer and a museum of historic ships. Best of all, it has clear views of the river, so get there early on the 4th.
Berry Park
4 Berry St. at North 14th St.
This "bi-level behemoth beer hall" (sounds good to us!) has plenty of space both indoor and outside, with a large roof deck that will become prime real estate once the fireworks get going.
Wythe Hotel
80 Wythe Ave, (at North 11th St), 11249
Many rooms at this Williamsburg boutique hotel have floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over Manhattan. If you want to watch with a crowd, find a spot on the sixth-floor bar and grab a celebratory cocktail.
