Fans of late-90s romantic comedies, rejoice! The Oscar-winning hit film Shakespeare in Love is being adapted for the stage, and is slated to premiere at London’s Noel Coward Theatre in the summer of 2014.
The screenplay (which earned Academy Awards for Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard) will be adapted for the stage by Lee Hall (who earned a Tony Award for writing the book of the musical Billy Elliott). Declan Donnellan will direct and Disney Theatrical Productions and Sonia Friedman Productions will share producing responsibilities. No stars have been named as yet, but we hear the cast will include more than 26 actors and musicians...and Gwyneth Paltrow isn't doing much these days, is she? (We're sure she'd be up for a return to the London stage--she earned great notices for her turn in Proof at the Donmar Warehouse more than 10 years ago.)
