We have renovations aplenty in this week's roundup of the latest news in the world of hotel design. Here's the latest.

Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Eyes November Reopening After Renovation

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts will reopen Le Touessrok as the Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, Mauritius on November 1, when the property completes its six-month renovation.

Located on the east coast of Mauritius in the Trou d'Eau Douce Bay, the 200-room Shangri-La's Le Touessrok Resort has Indian Ocean views from all guestrooms, suites and villas, white sand beaches, and Ilot Mangénie, a private island reserved for guests with 2.2 miles of beach, a beach club and on-island butlers.

As part of the renovation, the resort's tropical bohemian look is being revitalized and enhanced by contemporary styling referencing Mauritius' cultures, as well as the area's landscape of volcanic mountains, rainforests and lagoons. Shangri-La's Asian influences are also being integrated into the design of the property. The renovation is also going to introduce organic and natural materials.

There will be five new dining and bar concepts, including the Republik Beach Club & Grill and Sega.

The property has two pools, aquatic and land-based activities, T-Club for children aged between four and 11 and Active T-Club for those 12 to 17 years old. Similarly available is the 18-hole, par 72 golf course designed by Bernhard Langer.

Mahmut Anlar Redesigns W Istanbul

W Istanbul recently unveiled its new look, designed by Turkish designer and Geomim co-founder Mahmut Anlar.

Following the revamp, the property has a new entrance “tunnel” leading into the hotel. This was transformed into a place mimicking a fashion runway, a collaboration between Anlar and Thierry Dreyfuss, who designed the lighting for the feature.

Anlar also juxtaposed interior images of Istanbul landmarks and Turkish traditions with a design inspired by Ottoman art and treasures. The Ottoman theme runs throughout the property's communal spaces, with specialized furniture design and seating areas. Domes play a big role -- for instance, there is a seating area with a “domed design” reflecting the characteristic look of Ottoman Turkey.

The refresh of the hotel also included a new “Cool Corner Suite” on the third floor. The one-bedroom retreat has a separate living room and Bosphorus views from the balcony. The suite can also be combined with a “Studio Suite” and a “Mega Room” to create an area of more than 1,700 square feet.

W Istanbul similarly introduced a new W Day Spa with two treatment rooms, a Turkish Bath and Hammam. The new FIT fitness center on the third floor also offers views and a space with natural daylight.

APM Design Refurbishes The Glendower Hotel

In Ireland, The Glendower Hotel just refurbished its lounge area. Located in Lytham St Annes, offering views of the Irish Sea, the establishment’s refurbishment was headed by APM Design.

According to design director Andy McClusky, nature was the inspiration for the refurbishment. The company made use of bespoke woven floor from Wilton Carpets Commercial, with the design used to define the transition between circulation and seating areas.

The flooring has as design elements intertwining peacock feathers, created in vivid blue. The feathers were fused with overlay effects and textures that fade and flow, in colors that complement the furniture and furnishings. The bespoke axminster covers 1,767 square feet of lounge space.
