Andaz Maui Set to Open This Summer

Maui is getting a bit greener: The LA Times is reporting that the Andaz Maui at Wailea, a LEED-certified hotel, will open this summer along the island's Mokapu Beach.

The resort occupies the 15-acre site that was previously home to the Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort, which closed in 2007.

The hotel will have 297 rooms and suites as well as seven villas. Top perk: A series of cascading infinity pools will provide views of the Pacific.

The property will have two restaurants, including Morimoto Maui, where Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto will blend traditional Japanese cooking techniques with local ingredients.

The Andaz Maui at Wailea will be Hawaii’s first LEED-certified resort, which indicates "green" qualities in a building. The property will incorporate features that reduce energy and water consumption and minimize waste.

Because work is continuing on the property, the opening date can't be set yet, but reservations are being accepted for stays beginning September 15.
