Over the last few years, we’ve been keeping tabs on Donald Trump’s plans to convert the Old Post Office Pavilion in Washington D.C. into a luxury hotel. The latest news out of the nation’s capital: Donald and daughter Ivanka Trump celebrated the start of construction yesterday on Pennsylvania Avenue in the presence of D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray.

The Trumps revealed model rooms for the $200 million property, and The Washington Post explains that the average size of 600 square feet makes them “larger than many of the new micro-unit apartments being designed and built in the city.” Top digs will be the two Presidential Suites, occupying the former offices of the postmaster and encompassing 3,500 and 5,000 square feet.

When it debuts in 2016, the Trump International Hotel, Washington, D.C. is expected to compete with the city’s best luxury hotels. In unveiling the model room, Ivanka described the style as paying homage to the historic 1899 building, while immersing luxury travelers in the “fresh, elegant and crisp” style expected today.
