Midtown NYC Rooftop Bar Announces Reopening Date

If New York City ever sees summer again (at this point, we're not convinced it'll ever happen), the rooftop bars will be the place to see and be seen for the warmer months. We hear that a popular midtown option, mad46 at the top of the Roosevelt Hotel, will reopen on April 16 and will host a big party to welcome spring on April 24.

The sky-high terrace has an exclusive elevator – accessible from the 46th Street hotel entrance – to take guests up to the 19th-floor loft. We hear events will range from from weekly happy hours (serving signature Mad Mojitos) to the annual Kentucky Derby bash complete with projector screens of the race and copper pitchers pouring Mint Juleps. The Summer Movie Nights remain a tradition let guests choose between watching classic films in the open air or looking out over the nighttime city. (Tough call.)

Oh, and the drinks: That Mad Mojito is garnished with white-chocolate sticks and shaved coconut. Executive Chef Robert Hohmann serves fresh menu items like house-cured Tasso Ham and Lump Crab Arancini served with smoked paprika remoulade sauce, pan-fried Kobe Burger Wraps complete with mad dipping sauce, and Gazpacho Shooters with chili-lime marinated shrimp, watermelon and jalapeños.

The bar, located at Madison and 46th Street, is open Wednesday through Friday from 5 to 10 p.m. and will be open six days a week on May 5, from 5 p.m. to midnight. Good to know: The lounge also includes two indoor areas for when it gets too hot out. (After a winter like this, is that even possible?)
