More luxury is coming to The Maldives this fall with the anticipated arrival of new boutique resort, Milaidhoo Island.

Slated to open its doors in November, the luxury resort is set on a 13 acre private island in the heart of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the Baa Atoll region of the Maldives. Life on the island and the vibe of the resort centers around laid-back living, offering a barefoot accepting, informal island setting.

To reach the remote island, guests must arrive by a 30-minute seaplane flight from The Maldives International Airport. Upon arrival, first views include the 30 spacious over-water villas standing on stilts over the lagoon. In addition to the over-water villas, the resort also has 20 beachfront villas hidden among the island’s tropical greenery. The waterfront villas span 2,600 square feet while the beach villas run 3,100 square feet. All villas have large, private, freshwater swimming pools and an island host to serve guests throughout their stay.

Designed by local architect Mohamed Shafeeq, the resort’s 50 villas were constructed using materials and fittings custom-made for Milaidhoo to epitomize contemporary Maldives style. To add to the outdoor living style, the villas open up 180-degrees to allow the island’s natural light and beauty into the room.

Within the resort are three restaurants and two bars, with Milaidhoo’s signature restaurant being overwater and shape like three traditional Maldivian sailing boats. It will offer a modern interpretation of island influence cuisine and cocktails as well as a wine list featuring a variety of classic options and a selection of wines made from lesser-known boutique wine makers. All villas have their own wine fridge where guests can bring back their personal wine of choice.

Four treatment suites set on stilts over the lagoon comprise the island’s spa, where guests can also enjoy complimentary yoga and meditation classes daily located on the custom-built pavilion. For those on the beach, snorkeling on coral reefs, diving, water sports, fishing and excursions to nearby islands are also available to experience. For the animal lover, wild life such as dolphins, whale sharks and manta rays, are frequent visitors to the shores of Milaidhoo Island as the resort’s located in a protected marine area.

To keep the laid back luxury style authentic, Milaidhoo is the only resort in the atoll created specifically with couples in mind, though children aged nine and above are welcomed at the resort.
