As part of the ongoing renovations of Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo, its storied restaurant—the Louis XV—has been reborn this month as the Le Louis XV-Alain Ducasse. As reported by The New York Times T magazine, the Michelin three-starred restaurant has recently unveiled a dramatic new look along with its new name.
Ducasse hired his long-time designer collaborators- the Paris-based duo Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku- to orchestrate the big renovation. The idea was to bring the Belle Epoque dining room into the 21st century, ditching the “grandmotherly” opulence of the room. The restaurant is now infused with light, and a new crystal chandelier, made of custom-designed Murano glass, takes center stage. Staff uniforms were newly designed by Marine Halna du Fretay, who used to be the women’s ready-to-wear designer at Hermès.
Ducasse also changed up the menu with a continuing focus on fresh seafood and Mediterranean vegetables. The hotel’s wine cellars, stocked with 400,000 bottles, continues to be one of the most impressive around the world.
