An ever-popular travel destination, this beacon of North African culture is home to a number of noteworthy sites and experiences, as it continues to expand offerings to its luxury clientele. Banyan Tree Tamouda

With an expected opening in Summer 2015, the Tamouda Bay resort, will be the first Banyan Tree outpost in Africa. Located just 45 minutes from Tangier, the beachside destination will offer villa-style accommodations with a traditional Moroccan aesthetic. Luxury amenities for both adults and children, such as a yoga room and gym, art gallery,  Kids Club, library, pools, conference rooms and dining options ranging from Mediterranean to Thai. 

Mandarin Oriental Marrakech

While the official opening date has yet to be announced, the Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech, has already released details regarding its upcoming development on the Royal Golf road. The 54-villa estate will feature vast gardens, mountain views, a variety of swimming pools, local and international cuisine, spa facilities with yoga and fitness studios, four treatment rooms and two couples’ suites. 

Visiting Morocco’s Desert by Camel

In her recent article, Giovanna Dell’Orto recounts her Saharan desert-crossing by camel-back with the Desert Majesty tour company from Marrakech to Erg Chebbi, en route to Timbuktu. Standouts from her journey included desert canyons among the High Atlas Mountains, Col du Tichka, and Dades Gorge; casbahs and castles in the Dades and Draa valleys; Ait Ben Haddou and Tamnougalt; and even a public hammam bath.
