Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam Preps for Summer Debut

Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam

Mark your calendars. One of the most hotly anticipated new hotels of the year is now taking reservations from August 20, 2014. The Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam has been on our radar for a few years now; the project has been an ambitious one-- converting six original 18th century canal houses (all heritage-listed!)-- into a luxury hotel. (The hotel landed on our list of new luxury hotels to watch for 2014.)

Located directly on Herengracht, one of the city’s oldest canals, the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is a short walk from the city’s main attractions like the Hermitage Museum. The hotel will have a spa with an indoor pool and fitness center, and dining options will include a fine restaurant operated in partnership with Michelin three-starred De Librije, the Peacock Alley for afternoon tea, and a cocktail bar called The Vault.

The 93 rooms have either canal or courtyard garden views, and come with contemporary comforts like free wifi, espresso machines, and spacious bathrooms. Named for historic figures, signature suites (the Backer, van Loon, and Brentano) have original wall frescoes and architectural details. The best part of all? Large windows framing the canal.
