New Ice Skating Rinks to Open in Brooklyn

Great news for families heading to New York City this winter: According to city website Gothamist, Brooklyn's Prospect Park will open two new skating rinks in December, which will replace the late Prospect Park Wollman Rink. One rink will be outdoors and the other will be covered, and both will be open year-round: In summer, the covered rink will be used for roller skating while the outdoor one will be a water playground.

The improvements are part of the Park's $74 million Lakeside development, the first such renovation in 50 years, according to the site. Prospect Park Alliance spokesperson Paul Nelson said that no operator has been selected yet, so details like opening hours and cost of admission have not been determined.

Meanwhile, another ice rink will also open in December at the McCarren Park pool in North Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Paper is reporting that a vendor has been selected to manage the rink, but did not mention the name.
