New York Buzz: Find Designer Fabergé Eggs in Month-Long Hunt

Looking for a really swank activity for spring in New York? This looks like a good pick: During the month of April, The Big Apple will host the world’s biggest egg hunt, sponsored by Fabergé. More than 200 egg sculptures, each individually created by some of the world’s leading artists, designers and creatives, will be displayed across the city for three weeks, and visitors can find them all.

When it was held in London two years ago, the Fabergé Big Egg Hunt set two Guinness World Record titles and ultimately raised over $1.5 million for charity.

There are some big names involved, too: Designed by stars like Diane von Furstenberg, Ronnie Wood, Marc Quinn, Bruce Weber, Zaha Hadid, Peter Beard, Carolina Herrera, Franck De Las Mercedes, Jacques Torres and William Wegman, the eggs will be "hidden" in public places across all five boroughs, with a guide to help the "hunters" find them.

And since auction house Sotheby’s is partnering with the project, the sculptures will be auctioned off at the end of the event, raising funds for economically disadvantaged children and critically endangered wildlife: The event will raise money for children in New York City through Studio in a School (which brings visual arts and professional artists to more than 150 New York public schools each year), and conservation efforts through Elephant Family, saving the endangered Asian elephant and its habitat.
