New York Buzz: Try a Shakespeare-themed Pub Crawl

This looks like a great way to get in some Manhattan culture and relax in a casual setting (or several) at the same time: The New York Shakespeare Exchange will host a "ShakesBEER pub crawl" on Saturday, April 12.

ShakesBEER (we love the name) is a three-hour pub crawl that partners the Bard with libations of guests' choice. (It doesn't have to be beer, of course—wine or cocktails will also be on the menus.) The crawl is divided between four bars, with a Shakespeare scene breaking out at each location. We think any scene involving Falstaff would be especially appropriate, but guests can probably excpect excerpts from Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It, The Taming of the Shrew, and Twelfth Night. (None of which involves Falstaff. Alas.)

The event kicks off at The Liberty (29 West 35th Street, between 5th and 6th), and then moves on to the Galway Pub (7 East 36th Street) and The Australian (20 West 38th Street) before ending at a surprise bar. Admission includes four drink tickets redeemable for beer, wine and select cocktails at the participating bars.  Check-in begins at 2:30 PM at The Liberty for the 3 PM kick off.

April's ShakesBEER features The actors featured are Brian Cheng, Franny Civitano, Chris Corporandy, Carey Van Driest, Phil Mutz, Vince Gatton, Elizabeth Neptune, and Annie Paul. The directors are Cristina Lundy (Othello for NYSX); and Ross Williams (Island and The Life and Death of King John for NYSX).

Tickets are available by calling Brown Paper Tickets (800-838-3006) or booking online at www.shakespeareexchange.org/content/shakesbeer-2014.
