There’s a lot of welcome luxury travel news coming out of Cannes at this year’s ILTM. Here’s an example: Oberoi Hotels and Resorts is planning to open a palace hotel in Marrakech in the first quarter of 2016—construction has been underway since 2014—and the smallest room will be a whopping 2100 square feet, all equipped with private pools.

Judging by the Twitter buzz from ILTM participants, this is a highly anticipated project. Even in the saturated luxury hotel market in Marrakech—where all the top international hotel brands compete with over-the-top palaces, spas, and gastronomic restaurants—the Oberoi is a welcome addition. It’s a pharaonic project which also includes branded villas, and a spa which is situated on a private island on a lake within the orchard.

The Oberoi Group has a few other hotels in the works for 2016: The Oberoi Sukhvilas in Chandigarh, and The Oberoi Al Zorah in the United Arab Emirates.

Also rumored to be on the horizon in Morocco: The Oberoi Casablanca, slated to open in 2018. The largest city in Morocco recently saw the opening of the Four Seasons Casablanca.
