Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. has announced an agreement with Princess Cruises to purchase the Ocean Princess for Norwegian Holdings' newly acquired Oceania Cruises brand. Norwegian Holdings acquired Oceania as part of its purchase of Prestige Cruises International, which was finalized late last week.
The 684-passenger Ocean Princess will be renamed Sirena and join Oceania Cruises' trio of sister ships, Insignia, Regatta and Nautica.
Ocean Princess was formerly called Tahitian Princess but renamed by Princess in 2009 to reflect a less regional scope. What's most important to note? Prior to that, this ship was formerly the R-4, sailing for Renaissance Cruises, which ceased operating after 9/11. So, the vessel is actually a sister ship to Oceania's Regatta, Nautica and Insignia, all former R-class ships.
Oceania plans to use the new ship to expand the number and diversity of destination-focused itineraries on offer, the line said.
The inaugural season for Sirena will be released in late February 2015 with reservations opening on March 4, 2015.
