Soccer Star Cristiano Ronaldo Opens 5-Star Hotel in Madeira

After leading Portugal to victory in the Euro2016 soccer championship in July, Ronaldo is getting into the hotel business. The Real Madrid star has opened a five-star hotel in his native Funchal on the island of Madeira. The Pestana CR7 hotel is the first of four planned boutique hotels—a joint partnership between Cristiano Ronaldo and the Pestano Hotel Group, the largest international Portuguese hotel group. Other destinations will include Lisbon (later this year), followed by New York and Madrid in 2017.

Decorated in a contemporary style (with signed Ronaldo soccer shirts and memorabilia), the hotel even has carpets reminiscent of the green turf on the soccer field. There are 48 guestrooms including the CR7 suite which comes with a PlayStation 4, virtual reality glasses, and work-out equipment. Looking to become a hot spot for millennials, the Pestana CR7 has a trendy rooftop pool with views over Funchal. Ronaldo knows a thing or two about the party scene; he vacationed on the idyllic island of Ibiza (a true hedonist’s playground) after wrapping up his soccer season this year.
