RIU has purchased and acquired the historic Gresham Hotel, located in the heart of Dublin. The hotel is now operating as the Riu Plaza The Gresham Dublin hotel.

The O’Connel Street hotel, purchased for €92 million, joins the portfolio of urban Riu Plaza Hotels, currently located in New York, Miami, Panama and Guadalajara. The new purchase was made in hopes of strengthening the brand’s presence in Europe, as it becomes the brand’s second European hotel after the Riu Plaza Berlin, which opened in 2015.

The Gresham's building, approaching its 200 anniversary, recently underwent a renovation to offer the Irish capital city’s tradition and history combined with modern, up-to-date services and amenities. The hotel offers 323 rooms and suites, 20 function rooms, a restaurant and bar and a prime location within the center of the city. The facilities are located a short walk from the River Liffey, Croke Park, Dublin Castle, Temple Bar and the Henry Street shopping area. It’s also 20 minutes from the Dublin airport and even closer to the new Convention Centre of Dublin.

According to Luis Riu, CEO of RIU Hotels & Resorts, Dublin is now “one of the most interesting cities for investment.” He added, “Its tourism industry is booming, demand for rooms rising and the city is putting a lot of money into its infrastructure. We are extremely pleased with the purchase of this hotel in one of the most beautiful European capitals. We are sure that it will be the perfect addition to our collection of Riu Plaza hotels and many returning RIU clients will be drawn to discovering this destination with us.”
