John Mcmahon

As we celebrate Luxury Travel Advisor’s 10th anniversary in our July issue with a look back and forward, I wanted to find a quote that would sum up not only our past 10 years, but the many advisors who have been featured in our issues. I also wanted to reflect on what my message has been to all of you over the years, which has always been to think out of the box, to challenge yourself, and to look to the future with the idea of implementing change.

Not one of you would be around today if you didn’t change your business model and adapt to outside influences. To be comfortable with your business is to be complacent. Not to try and fail means you’re not evolving with the times. That’s not to say you shouldn’t celebrate milestones like this; we’re all in the hospitality business, and celebrations are the core motivator of travel. Why not use our milestone as a springboard to the next 10 years? So here is my quote:

“The safest road to hell is the gradual one — the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts.”

— C.S. Lewis

I know this will resonate with you all, and I hope that Luxury Travel Advisor has been giving you those signposts to help you make the turn, climb the steep hill and avoid the sinkholes.

Here’s to the next 10, and many more.
