Every day we exchange—ideas with colleagues, money with vendors, looks with passersby and so on. The world wouldn’t go ‘round without items exchanging. Relationships are the result of this process. Picture this: you give money to the dry-cleaner a few times a month. You hand over payment; they give you a service—laundered clothes that are as good, if not better, than when you bought them. The clerk at the dry-cleaner’s compliments your blouse; you get talking and find that you can launder your blouse instead of dry-cleaning, extending its life. A relationship develops and the exchange equals a benefit. Elementary, yes, but this exchange is essential, just like those you have with clients.
There are many ways this can be applied. Consider this: In June, we held our ninth-annual Luxury Travel Expo Advisory Board Meeting. Top luxury travel advisors and suppliers met to discuss luxury travel at The Trump Soho. We reviewed feedback from attendees to ensure we deliver the best educational content for Luxury Travel Expo. During the time we spent together, relevant topics were discussed and key speakers were mentioned. The result: a program that will bring attendees in December more opportunities to grow their luxury bookings. The day is an information exchange!
What about everyday discussions with clients? In my opinion, each day is an information exchange and we must keep our eyes and ears open to our clients’ desires—no matter how big or small. Perhaps you are speaking to a loyal client and they want to visit Paris. Do they want to stay steps away from the Eiffel Tower? Or close to the Champs-Elysees? What about a boutique hotel? Maybe they want round-the-clock beignets? How do you know which hotel to recommend? Listening is key to ensuring you are delivering excellent service and strengthening the relationships you currently have and those you want to form. You have to listen to deliver the correct recommendation in the information exchange.
The same holds true for our supplier relationships. Listening to what they have to offer us coupled with what our clients need is an ideal equation for a successful result—a satisfied traveler! A strong supplier relationship often helps exceed your clients’ expectations. For those looking to strengthen and grow their supplier relationships, a visit to the Luxury Travel Expo trade show floor is a must! With over 600 luxury exhibitors, it is your one-stop locale for global suppliers.
This year we are excited to launch Luxury Travel Exchange, where you are able to meet individual suppliers you want to learn more about. It is the ideal venue for you to forge relationships with participating suppliers, learn about new products and offerings or receive updates from suppliers in an intimate, one-to-one setting.
I promise, by the end, you will be an exchange expert! Plus, you’ll walk away brimming with new ideas to bring back to your office.
