Santa Catalina Island Company Renovates Hotel Atwater

The Santa Catalina Island Company (SCICo), which has operated lodging, dining, sightseeing and expeditions on Catalina Island for 118 years, has announced the completion of the major renovations to the Hotel Atwater in Avalon.

Renovations to the hotel, originally built by William Wrigley Jr., are said to “preserve its 1920s charm with a bright, two-story lobby with updated interior designs that create a fresh and welcoming ambiance”. The entry features original blue, gold and black Catalina tiles. Enlarged prints of colorful vintage Catalina postcards and posters set around a 16th century sunburst mirror.

The guest rooms are completely refurbished with new carpeting, dark wood furniture, queen-sized beds, ceiling fans, television and telephones. A burgundy-and-gold checkered carpet is offset with white walls and linens for a “calm and relaxing environment”.

The property's features include: air conditioning/heating in all rooms; iron and ironing boards; free WiFi access; suites and upgraded rooms feature hair dryers; basic-cable TV; complimentary Starbucks coffee served in the lobby; senior, military and group discounts; complimentary storage room for dive gear, mountain bikes and luggage; and outdoor rinse-off showers for divers.
