Good news for foodies on the high seas: Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection received the Readers' Choice Award for "Best Culinary Cruise Line" in the 2014 Saveur Culinary Travel Awards, as chosen by the magazine’s audience of 1.6 million food and travel enthusiasts.
Uniworld’s chefs will explore farmers’ markets in different ports of call, selecting locally grown produce, and create meals inspired by regional cuisine. Good for oenophiles: The company’s wine list includes some top vintages.
Shore excursions often highlight local experts and artisans—such as chefs, bakers, cheese makers and chocolatiers. On different tours, guests can make their own pasta in Italy, sample foods made with saffron grown along the Danube, and watch cheese being made in the Netherlands.
A full listing of Readers’ Choice winners in all categories can be found on the Saveur website at www.saveur.com/CTA. The site also has a list of Experts' Choice winners—selected separately by a panel of industry experts and Saveur editors—as well as a photo gallery, an article about each winner, and links to all winners' websites. In addition, the October 2014 issue of Saveur will feature special coverage of the Experts' Choice winners, along with a reference to the announcement of the Readers' Choice winners online. The issue goes on sale September 16, 2014.
