Scotland's Gleneagles Hotel Gets New Managing Director

Here's a new name to know for travel to Scotland: The Gleneagles Hotel, Perthshire, has tapped a new managing director as the resort celebrates its 90th year.

Patrick Elsmie will step down as the resort’s managing director at the end of 2014 after 20 years with the company, although he will remain at Gleneagles on a part-time basis in a director-level role. He will be succeeded as managing director by Bernard Murphy, the current general manager.

Bernard Murphy has been at Gleneagles for seven years in the role of general manager, having previously worked at RBS, Compass, Gleneagles, and Intercontinental Hotels.

During Elsmie's time at Gleneagles, the hotel has hosted high-profile events including the NATO Defence Ministers conference in 1989 and the G8 summit in 2005. Earlier this year, the hotel hosted the Ryder Cup golf tournament.
