See Sights From Oscar-Winning Italian Film With Rome Cavalieri Tour

Did you catch the 2014 Oscar and BAFTA award-winning Italian film La Grande Bellezza (The Great Beauty) by Paolo Sorrentino? Fans will want to check out the Rome Cavalieri tour from Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, which visits locations throughout the Eternal City featured in the film.

Led by the hotel’s resident art historian, Alexandra Massini, the full-day excursion begins with visits to the Fontana dell’Acqua Paola on the Janiculum Hill and Donato Bramante’s Tempietto within the courtyard at San Pietro in Montorio. Participants are then driven to Trastevere and walk across the Ponte Sisto. From there, they can walk to the Palazzo Spada, Piazza Farnese and along the cobblestones of the historic Via Giulia lined with Renaissance palaces and hidden courtyards.

Some unique perks include a visit to the private apartments of the palace of the Marquis Sacchetti and a private reception at the home of Marchioness Violante Guerrieri Gonzaga on the rooftop terrace of Palazzo Taverna with 360-degree views of the historic city center.

After an optional lunch (ranging from aperitifs to a seated feast), guests will explore the Piazza Navona, Villa Medici with an exclusive tour of the gardens, drive along the Via Veneto and stop on a terrace overlooking the Colosseum. The evening concludes with a visit to the grand baths of an ancient Caracalla, and a drive up the Aventine Hill to discover a surprise view from a keyhole.

Good to know: Given the exclusivity of the tour, guests must book 10-14 days in advance. If the group would like lunch, guests should allow three weeks advance booking.
