Six Ways to Celebrate New Year's Eve in London

There are plenty of great ways to celebrate New Year's Eve in London. Courtesy of VisitLondon, here are some top suggestions!

Mayor of London’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks Display at the EDF Energy London Eye

The New Year’s Eve Fireworks Display at the London Eye is expected to attract about 250,000 people. There are designated viewing areas, but these will fill up fast (and close!) so get there early. Celebrations will continue until 12:45am with a live DJ set. Good to know: The streets will be packed, so those looking to watch the fireworks up close will probably want to use the tube to get around rather than a car. Just be sure to check with Transport for London in advance: There will be major changes to public transport and services will be extremely busy.

Southbank Centre presents a Vintage New Year’s Eve

Transforming the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall into four floors of decadent entertainment, this party will include five pop-up vintage nightclubs, dining, a hair and beauty parlor (just in case one's coif begins to unravel), photo studios and a private terrace overlooking the Thames to watch the fireworks.

New Year’s Eve Operetta Matinee at St-Martins-in-the-Fields

Want to make a full day of New Year's Eve? Go listen to an afternoon concert at the historic St-Martin-in-the-Fields church. Music fans can listen to arias and scenes from popular operas and operettas presented by rising stars from London’s Royal Academy of Music.

NYE River Cruise with Golden Tours

Ring in the new year with a Golden Tours Thames cruise. Passengers get top views of London’s landmarks illuminated for the New Year Celebrations (especially St Paul’s Cathedral and the Tower of London). At midnight, raise a glass of champagne and watch the fireworks display over the London Eye.

New Year’s Eve Skate at Somerset House

Ring in the New Year on ice! Skate at Somerset House will stay open late, with fans twirling and spinning to a live DJ. At midnight, guests can cheer with champagne and exclusive access to the River Terrace to watch the fireworks. Guests will also have access to Tom’s Skate Lounge where they can get mulled wine, hot chocolate, cocktails and warming snacks.

Gatsby New Year’s Eve Party at Mansion Bar

Gatsby’s 1920′s mansion is recreated for this NYE party. Mansion Bar is pulling out all the stops, so dress up in your best flapper dress or braces and prepare to enjoy live Jazz and Blues with Charleston dancers. There’ll be plenty of Champagne and canapés as well as live coverage of the fireworks along the Thames.
