Pop-Up Restaurants Arrive In The Alps

From Aspen’s moveable Veuve Clicquot champagne bar, and Megève’s Untitled Project pop-up restaurant, via the Rock the Pistes pop-up music festival in the Portes du Soleil to a street food-style event and wine safari on the slopes of Alta Badia, informal takes on traditional bars and restaurants are boosting the Alpine scene.

Now in its second full season at the party, The Savoyard Supper Club in Courchevel, France, first popped up early in 2012, at La Boulotte bar and restaurant in Courchevel Moriond (aka 1650).

Founded by Jimmy Garcia, who made a name for himself creating pop-up restaurants in cafés and art galleries in London, and with the help of friends Sam MacKenzie and Marcus Parrott, the club offers diners a six-course taster menu for €35 in an informal, sociable setting. It also acts as a showcase for the food the boys serve in their fine-dining Ski Bluebird chalets.

The menu include starters such as wild venison with chocolate and balsamic dressing and toasted walnuts, and main courses such as wild rabbit and pancetta ballotine with an earl grey, honey and rabbit jus.

“We’re always sold out, and we have a great time cooking and serving for 40 people on the large communal tables,” says Jimmy. This season the club is running every three weeks, on Wednesdays. To book, email [email protected].
