Chile has updated its entry requirements for foreign travelers. Beginning November 1, the five-day isolation period announced previously will no longer be mandatory; travelers who are fully vaccinated and validate their vaccination status prior to traveling, as well as take a COVID-19 PCR test in Chile presenting negative results, can travel throughout the country without quarantine.
After over one and a half years of border closure and restrictions, Chile began welcoming visitors from around the world on October 1. Since then, government authorities have updated the “Protected Borders Plan” as the country has reported very low COVID-19 infection rates.
Visitors can enter the country through dedicated airports in Santiago, Iquique or Antofagasta. To enter Chile, all travelers will have to complete a series of mandatory requirements, which include a negative COVID-19 PCR test performed within 72 hours prior to travel to Chile.
Travelers will also need to complete the “Travelers’ Affidavit” form 72 hours prior to travel at www.c19.cl. The electronic form includes contact information, medical history and previous travel history. Travelers must have a travel insurance to cover any medical expenses related to COVID-19 with a minimum coverage of $30,000 for health benefits.
Visitors have the option to complete the full five-day isolation period announced in September or temporarily isolate until receiving a negative COVID-19 PCR test, which can only be taken in Chile. In both cases, travelers will also have to present proof of a COVID-19 vaccine, which will allow visitors to obtain the “Mobility Pass” issued by the Chilean Ministry of Health. The pass must be requested at www.mevacuno.gob.cl prior to traveling.
Those who travel to Chile without an approved “Mobility Pass” will have to isolate for a total of seven days. Every person must still comply with the traveler’s follow up process, which is done over a period of 14 days and consists of daily self-reporting of health status, current location and testing via email.
