Though he only has a year under his belt as a travel advisor, Wei Pang is already making waves as he continues to grow a new market for Travel Edge.
“Wei Pang first came to Travel Edge last year in search of a luxury travel company willing to partner with him on a new business model. He wanted to take his sales skills from his successful former career in finance to hit his new goal of being the top luxury advisor for the China travel market,” says Mary Kleen, the regional director, U.S. East at Travel Edge.
“His sales plan was impressive: While extremely detailed, it hinged on the simple concept of offering Virtuoso benefits via the most popular online app in China,” Kleen adds. “Wei has opened our eyes to how travel products can be paired with established amenities to grow a new market from scratch to top levels within a single year.”
What’s more, Pang has made the transition into becoming a successful travel advisor from a previous career in the sciences.
“I have my PhD in Polymer Science, but I have always been more interested in finance. While I was pursing my degree, I passed the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Financial Risk Manager (FRM) certification exams. I managed a billion-dollar fund in China before I decided I wanted to jump into the travel industry,” Pang says.
Since he decided to go into the travel industry, Pang has found great success, pulling in $2 million in annual revenue for Travel Edge. One of the biggest keys to him standing out has been finding a market that he believes has not received enough attention.
“My focus has been the Chinese market,” says Pang. “The Chinese luxury traveler is the largest growing sector in luxury travel. I know Chinese, I know the Chinese customer and that gives me the advantage in an underserved market.”
As a result, Pang’s clients consist mainly of high-end Chinese travelers. His current focus is luxury hotels, but he is ready to expand to new areas in the future. He says his focus for Year Two as an advisor is to increase his overall sales and start selling luxury cruises. At Travel Edge, he believes he has all the tools to fulfill these goals of growth and expansion.
“In my opinion, Travel Edge is the most innovate travel agency in the world. Their ADX platform gives me the advanced tools I need to better service my clients and grow my business,” he says.
As a rising travel advisor star, Pang’s motivation to succeed comes from his family and being able to provide them with enjoyable experiences, and that includes traveling.
“My goal in working hard is to keep my family happy. I went to Orlando with my family in August. It was the first time that my daughter had been to Disney World. She really enjoyed it,” he tells us.
Pang says his dream is to travel around the world, and he is currently on a trip to China where he plans to visit Dunhuang.
