Virtuoso has just released its Luxe Report. The report predicts the most popular upcoming luxury destinations and offers patterns in travel behavior. Virtuoso gathered the information from an annual survey taken by 559 elite travel agents across the globe. Here's what the survey exposed.

River cruising seems continues to grow in popularity. For the first time in five years it was the number one trend in multi-generational travel. Adventure travel was another dominant trend, with travelers preferring to experience adventure in Costa Rica and South Africa.

Croatia topped the “Emerging Destination” list, while Iceland has risen in popularity. Cuba, Myanmar and Bhutan also did well in the emerging category.

Italy was named the “Top International Destination” as well as the favorite destination for family and honeymoon travel. The cities that people want to travel to the most in the U.S. include New York City, Maui, Napa Valley/Sonoma and Las Vegas.

The motivations behind luxury travel include the desire to explore new destinations, a need to experience the authentic, to relax and rejuvenate and to spend time with family.
