Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi’s Royal Villa

Royal Villa
The 3,000-squarefoot, three-bedroom Royal Villa is a perfect fit for families.

In November of last year, the Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi opened on Saadiyat Island as the brand’s second hotel in the UAE. It is situated on a five-mile stretch of environmentally protected natural sand beach, making it ideal for private retreats.

While almost all of the hotel’s rooms, suites and villas have unrestricted views of the Arabian Gulf, we’re most intrigued by the Royal Villa, a free-standing building that guarantees absolute privacy.

The nearly 3,000-square-foot, three-bedroom villa has one twin and two king beds (perfect for families, we say). The floor-to-ceiling windows and the huge terrace look out over the Arabian Sea, and the bathroom has a Hansgrohe rain shower and stand-alone Toto bathtub. The huge kitchen has a private entrance for chefs and butlers to enter and prepare food with total discretion. But we don’t know why anyone would want to stay inside: that terrace has private plunge pools, sunbeds and an outdoor rain shower. For in-suite massages, a massage table is already onsite.

However, if your clients want to visit the spa, they won’t be disappointed: Atarmia Spa (Atarmia means “aromatic flowing waters”) specializes in the aromatherapy methods that have been used for centuries throughout Arabian history to extract pure essential oil from flowers and plants. Spread out over two floors, the spa has nine treatment rooms, three of which have outdoor private terraces for alfresco therapies. While all the treatments sound lovely, we’re excited about the two-hour Caviar Sublime therapy, which includes an Aculift massage, a scalp massage and a hand-and-foot treatment…all involving caviar (which we hear is full of protein and antioxidants and other healthy things. Sounds good to us!). The Opulence of Atarmia, one of the spa’s signature treatments, includes ingredients like gemstones, diamond dust, honey and hot olive oil and incorporates therapies for the face, hair and body, including a hot stone massage and the choice of either an Opulence Caviar or Diamond Experience facial.

And if they’d rather not dine alone in their suite, guests have a choice of four restaurants that offer a range of dining options, from Arabic specialties to Western comfort food. The Park Bar & Grill restaurant specializes in seafood, authentic Asian dishes and steaks, which can be prepared on the charcoal-fired grill. The Café, meanwhile, serves Arabic specialties and has a show kitchen with a large wood-burning oven. The menu offers Middle Eastern hot and cold “mezzeh” (like tapas) as well as Arabic grills and oven-fresh bread. The Library is a contemporary tea lounge, serving selected teas, Barista coffee specialties, homemade pastries and grand cru chocolates—perfect for a quick, casual and relaxing bite to eat during the warm afternoons, we say.
