The French five-star hotel company has been hard at work transforming the historic Casino Carrasco Hotel. When the new Sofitel Montevideo Casino Carrasco and Spa opens its doors next month after a 27-month renovation, it will be the brand’s first property in Uruguay- a country beloved as one of South America’s top vacation destinations. (Montevideo is just a 30-minute flight from Buenos Aires, and two hours from Sao Paulo.)
Back in the early 20th century, the hotel was a glamorous icon in Uruguay’s capital city, and Sofitel’s goal in reviving it is to create “one of the region’s most sought-after addresses.” Located in the Carrasco neighborhood overlooking the Plata River, the luxury resort will have 116 guest rooms, the So SPA by Sofitel, the casino, a destination restaurant and Tea Gallery.
