Luxury travel advisors may know Turnberry Isle Miami from its Fairmont days, but the latest buzz is the hotel’s owners have taken over management and are ready to introduce their own new take on a classic resort.

In addition to its two 18-hole championship golf courses, Turnberry has a 25,000-square-foot Spa & Fitness Center, private Turnberry Miami Beach Club, 40,000-square-foot conference center, tennis center and celebrity Chef Michael Mina’s Bourbon Steak.

So what will be new, you ask? We hear that by 2014, guests can expect the addition of a 200-room tower. A $2 million spa renovation is also in the works, along with a new spa brand.

Central to Turnberry is its historic banyan tree, a type of tree that is featured prominently in Asian religions and myths to symbolize eternal life and unity. As such, the hotel is rolling out a series of experiential programs centered around the tree, such as full moon yoga by the tree and wedding ceremonies under the tree.

Gourmands will love the revamped menus at the Cascata Grille and the Laguna Grill under the supervision of recently appointed Executive Chef Derin Moore.

Getting There: Turnberry Isle is 12 miles south of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and 18 miles north of Miami International Airport.
