andBeyond is expanding its island collection with the addition of Vamizi Island. This posh island, located off the coast of northern Mozambique, will fall under andBeyond’s management beginning on March 1. There will be six private villas available with the intention to open the lodge in the future.

In all, the six villas can accommodate up to 12 people total, making it possible for families and couples to stay. Each villa comes with its own dedicated staff and a vehicle that can be used to explore the island and the mangrove lagoons. We think this island, with the sandy beaches, would be a relaxing way to end any safari vacation and children will especially like the wildlife.

While on the island, guests will want to explore the untouched coral reefs and ocean. There are 180 species of coral and more than 400 kinds of reef fish off the island, making it ideal for diving. And as an added touch, a marine sanctuary runs along the eastern side of the island, extending two miles out to sea. This sanctuary helps keep the water pristine and the wildlife abundant. Tip: Neptune’s Arm is recognized as one of the top scuba sites in the world, and it can be accessed from the island. Other water activities include snorkeling, catch-and-release deep sea fishing, whale watching, kayaking, nature walks and community visits.

Inside Tip: Children will love that this island is also a main breeding site for green turtles, guests can watch turtles laying their eggs or hatchlings moving into the sea.

As of this week, reservations for Vamizi are being handled directly by andBeyond. The island can be accessed from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, Nairobi in Kenya or Johannesburg in South Africa to Pemba in Mozambique. From Pemba, a charter flight in a light aircraft takes travelers directly to andBeyond Vamizi Island.
