VIA's West Coast itinerary, formally known as the Skeena, which travels between Jasper National Park in Alberta to Prince Rupert on the Pacific Coast of British Columbia will offer upgrades starting in the summer of 2014. Passengers on the route will be able to experience an enhanced VIA experience featuring the Panorama viewing car and superior meal services. VIA Rail is Canada's national rail passenger service.
The train departs three days a week in both directions. On the route in 2014, Touring class will include:
· Two-day trip from Jasper to Prince Rupert with a stop at Prince George (hotel not included in fare). Panorama car with extra-large dome windows for excellent mountain viewing (71 reclining seats) on select departures.
· At-seat service of all meals: Hot and cold selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner
· Wine at lunch and dinner
· Bar service and souvenir sales
· Access to the Park car and additional dome seating
The new Touring class service will be offered on specific dates only, starting in June.
Passengers who want to extend their journey can also connect with BC Ferries, one of the largest ferry operators, departing from Prince Rupert to northern Vancouver Island, VIA says.
