Culinary and Wellness Travel at the Rosewood Mayakoba (VIDEO)

Recently Luxury Travel Advisor got a chance to speak with Daniel Scott, managing director of the Rosewood Mayakoba, in our New York offices about the property's new culinary and wellness offerings.

The property is fresh off the debut of La Ceiba, a new Mayan garden and kitchen that opened in September of last year. La Ceiba offers Mayan cooking classes in which guests have a chance to pick fruits and vegetables from the restaurant's garden, which ties in with La Ceiba's cuisine -- a heavy emphasis on local fish cooked over zapote wood, served with local fruits and vegetables.

Good to know: La Ceiba has a popular family-style dinner that runs three times per week and offers a chance for guests to get to know the property team. Booking in advance is recommended.

Mayan Healing Hands

Also new at Rosewood Mayakoba is the Mayan-inspired "Mayan Healing Hands" wellness treatment. The program begins with a consultation with a salute to the seven cardinal points -- north, south, east, west, earth, sky and heart -- and a consultation with a shaman. The treatment incorporates local herbs, as well as a stay in a traditional temazcal sauna, before a purifying bath in a nearby cenote.

The new treatment is not the only locally-inspired offering at the spa. Rosewood Mayakoba has also begun incorporating local products, such as Yucatan Peninsula honey, into its treatments.
