St. Regis Lhasa Resort

Tibet may not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking of a luxury vacation, but Starwood Hotels & Resorts is looking to change that. The St. Regis Lhasa Resort is set to open on November 15 at the “Roof of the World.” More than 12,000 feet above sea level, the resort is being billed as the first international luxury hotel in Tibet.

The Details: The resort is just minutes away from the holy Potala Palace—an iconic destination and a must-see while in the area. It will have 150 rooms and villas and 12 suites, including the Presidential Suite and a honeymoon suite. We hear the resort is a great spot for very unique destination weddings. Nice touch: Newlyweds will receive a complimentary night in the honeymoon suite.

The Iridium Spa uses traditional Tibetan herbal treatments—great for relieving altitude stress. Guests can immerse themselves the gold-leaf immersion pool, or stretch out with some Yoga or Pilates in the Meditation Garden.

There will be several dining options at the resort, but we’re especially excited about Si Zi Kang, the first gastronomic Tibetan restaurant, where guests can sample authentic Tibetan and Nepalese cuisine in style. For something truly unique, suggest your clients visit the resort’s Tea Room. This dedicated space is the first of its kind, offering different blends of local and imported teas and serving vintage teas aged from 10-25 years.

Naturally, the resort will feature the brand’s signature St. Regis Butler Service. The butlers are trained in the English tradition and will provide 24-hour service while customizing each guest’s stay according to his or her specific tastes and preferences.

Best of all: The St. Regis Lhasa Resort will be decidedly green, using solar energy and underground water to save on diesel energy consumption. The hotel also operates a fleet of hybrid and turbo-diesel vehicles. Luxury travel advisors can contact Director of Sales and Marketing Elfa Cleofe (011-86-891-630-5842).
