For travelers to Provence, the Commanderie de Peyrassol in the Var is a must-stop on the itinerary, as much for its wines as for is beautiful estate, which resembles an open-air museum dotted with sculptures. In fact, the winery has France’s largest contemporary art collection that’s open to the public, and includes pieces by Antony Gormley, Paul Berry, Kendell Geers and Bernar Venet. The winery is also rich in history, as the ancient farm was founded by the Knights Templar in the 13th century.
The Commanderie de Peyrassol welcomes visitors year-round at the table d’hôte (the term, which literally means “the host’s table,” is used by establishments to indicate intimate, fixed-menu meals typically found in a guest house). Chef Guillaume Delaunet prepares gourmet meals with produce fresh from the garden.
New this year: Peyrassol has unveiled nine new guest rooms for visitors to spend the night. (The new rooms bring the grand total to 13.)
