Thanks to a $20 million facelift, the 134-room Tideline Palm Beach Ocean Resort and Spa is sporting a lighter, brighter look, certainly bringing the beach vibes. A stealthy option to the Four Seasons Palm Beach, which literally sits next door, Tideline is the new one to book if being right on the beach is a priority.
The renovation brings fresh energy and a completely new concept to the property, formerly known as the Omphoy, which sported darker colors and more of a city feel. Owner and developer Jeff Greene tells us of the new look, “My vision was to go beyond the boutique hotel concept and offer discerning guests a place that feels like home. We offer the best of everything here, from fine wines from my vineyard, The Beverly Hills Vineyard, to opulent Italian Fili d‘Oro bed linens to the ultimate rain shower experience in every room.”
Beach Vibes
The refurb has touched all areas of the resort, lifting the guestrooms with new flooring, marble countertops and contemporary furnishings, further accented by oversized desks, all in a soothing color palette with crisp whites, light blues and beige, evoking the nearby sea.
Good to know: The ocean rooms have balconies so close to the beach you almost feel like you can dive in. Other rooms face the pool. For VIPs, book room No. 515, the Presidential Suite, which is 775 square feet, with a comfortable sitting room complete with a large TV and an oversized bathroom with a tub and rain shower. Palm Beach really only has three resorts where you can walk out of the lobby and sit on the sand: Tideline, Four Seasons and The Breakers. (Eau Palm Beach is on the beach but technically in Manalapan, which is not too far south from the Tideline on A1A, but rules are rules!)
Dining
Under the deft guidance of Chef Gary Mawu, the Tideline offers two distinct restaurants: Mizu and Brandon’s. Immigrating from Indonesia, Chef Mawu brings diverse culinary expertise from working in Japanese restaurants in Chicago, Indiana and Florida, followed by a stint as executive chef at Nehru Place in New Delhi, India, before taking the helm at Tideline.
Mizu is a minimalist-designed sushi bar that emphasizes a chef-driven, seasonal menu in a serene seaside setting. Chef Mawu's signature dishes, particularly his omakase, have earned him a loyal following. Brandon's, on the other hand, is a relaxed, beachfront dining experience where guests can enjoy fresh seafood and modern, continental cuisine. We loved the Brussels sprouts with pancetta and goat cheese, as well as his take on seabass with Asian-inspired flavors. Yum.
Bonus: The hotel has a grand ballroom on the second floor with panoramic views of the white sandy beach and azulene waters. It's a gorgeous spot for weddings, along with the oceanfront terrace or the private beachfront. With 7,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor venues, including the dramatic pool deck and lush garden, the hotel also hosts a fair number of corporate retreats.
Wellness
A two-time winner of Condé Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice Awards as one of the best U.S. spas, the 6,000-square-foot Tideline Spa is designed for the optimum relaxation spa experience, with seven treatment rooms, including two couples’ suites. The signature treatment is an 80-minute massage that combines Swedish and Deep Tissue modalities, including essential oil therapy, a face acupressure massage and a scalp oil treatment. Pool and Beach
Hanging out by the beach and pool is the thing to do, chairs and umbrellas at the ready. Water sports can also be arranged.
“We have tailored all touchpoints throughout the renovation to deliver a sophisticated travel experience that is unique to Tideline,” Greene tells us in parting. From our site visit, seeing families enjoying the beach and locals stopping by for drinks and dinner, seems like his guests agree.
