Sonop Lodge Is Slated to Launch July 1 in Namib Desert

Sonop Lodge will launch on July 1 in the Namib Desert. The lodge has 10 guest tents set atop boulders in the Karas region of Namibia. Decorated in a 1920s British colonial aesthetic, the tents also have a large copper clawfoot bathtub, binoculars, maps and homemade letter paper.

A dining space dishes out an à la carte breakfast from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. and from noon offering light sharable dishes. At 8 p.m., a communal table is revealed to guests at a surprise location on the grounds. Silverware and candelabras add to the white-glove, gala-style dinner. The common areas can be found in the center of the camp. Bonus: The Cocktail & Cigar Lounge is equipped with a barman and parlor games to create a gentlemen’s club atmosphere.

Lodge amenities include a heated outdoor infinity pool, spa with two double treatment rooms, fitness center and private stables.

Guests can travel outside of the tents and explore the surrounding landscape by foot, electric bike or horseback. Within the private reserve, they might spot wild oryxes, rabbits, brown hyenas and leopards. Other custom excursions and experiences can be organized on demand, such as hot air balloon rides, candlelit dinners in the dunes or a classic film at the open-air cinema.

Good to know: Sonop Lodge is one of several new luxury lodges in Namibia. As a destination, the African country is vast and varied–not just in terms of its accommodations, but also in its diverse landscapes.

Special opening rates are offered from July 1 to August 31: A 10 percent discount on room rates for all bookings combining Sonop and Omaanda are applicable for minimum two-night stay per lodge within 14 days, and is valid year-round, with no black-out periods; an additional 50 percent off for every third night of stay in each lodge is also available. Rates are all-inclusive (accommodation, food and beverage, daily sunrise or sunset excursions, three pieces of laundry per day/per person, taxes) except for premium beverage brands and Champagne.
