Spa Time at New York's Plaza Athénée

Plaza Athénée Spa

Spas debuting in New York City are nothing new, but this one caught our eye: Hôtel Plaza Athénée opened the brand-new Plaza Athénée Spa last month just for hotel guests.

Cool Touch: The spa’s four Asian-themed private treatment suites use natural elements (think Brazilian teakwood floors; cabinetry with ebony finish and bamboo accents; and grasscloth wallpaper). We love that each treatment suite contains its own dressing room, lounge chair for relaxation and a private steam shower. All of the treatment rooms provide complete spa services (massage, facial, body wraps, reflexology, mani-pedi, makeup, etc.). One of the suites, we hear, will be used for Thai massages while another for couples massages.

Want some bragging rights? The Plaza Athénée Spa is the only luxury hotel spa in Manhattan to feature both Valmont and Babor Cosmetics skincare lines, and offer the lines’ signature treatments. These include Valmont’s “L’Elixir des Glaciers Ultimate Treatment,” a body and face treatment that firms and tones, and Babor’s “SeaCreation Facial,” which uses Tiger shells and dolphin music—we can’t wait to try this one.

The spa opening marks the end of the final phase of the hotel’s multimillion dollar refurbishment project, which included the renovation of the majority of guest rooms and suites and the addition of four premier luxury suites.
