The Watergate Hotel Washington DC to Open This Spring

The Watergate Hotel

We’ve been keeping tabs on The Watergate’s renovation for a few years now, and needless to say, this is one of the most hyped hotel openings of the year. The latest word is that The Watergate Hotel will open this spring (March 2016 or later) after a $125 million overhaul. The idea behind the project was to inject a healthy dose of glamour to the iconic property -- made famous by the 1972 burglary that resulted in President Richard Nixon’s resignation.

Situated next to the Kennedy Center, the hotel will have 336 guest rooms, expansive terraces overlooking the Potomac River, along with a rooftop bar where the D.C. power elite will mix and mingle. One of the hotel highlights will be the “Next Whisky Bar”, designed with a wave-like metal sculpture glowing with whisky bottles customized for The Watergate. Other facilities include the Argentta luxury spa, indoor saltwater pool, 27,000 square feet of meeting/event space, and two restaurants: Kingbird and Top of the Gate. In sum, The Watergate promises to be a veritable urban resort in the nation’s capital.
