Selfridges in London Hosts Rooftop Tea and Golf Party

Selfridges rooftop in LondonThere’s a lot going on in London this summer, and legendary retailers like Selfridges are celebrating the Queen and a summer of sport with an in-store extravaganza called “The Big British Bang” to pay homage to “all that is great in Great Britain.” The highlight of this tribute is an exclusive, pop-up tea shop (100% organic) and crazy golf.

Back in the 1930s, the department store had a mini golf course on the roof, and the new course is wildly popular since it debuted at the end of May. Open until September 2, 2012, the course is already booked solid for the month of June. Tickets for July will be released on Friday, June 15; tickets for August will be released on Friday, July 13, and tickets for September will be released on Friday, August 17 at noon.

The 9-hole course was designed by British food architects, Sam Bompas and Harry Parr, and each hole represents a London landmark (like Big Ben and the Tower Bridge) made out of jelly, icing, and fondant. Visitors can also enjoy the “highest tea on Oxford Street” on the Selfridges roof. Tables for lunch, tea, and evening drinks are available on a first-come, first-served basis from 12 noon until 10pm each day.

Selfridges is located at 400 Oxford Street. The rooftop is accessible via the lift in the Ground Floor Fragrance Hall. For more information, visit www.selfridges.com/bigbritishbang.
