Few & Far Unveils Sustainable Safari Lodge in South Africa

Few & Far, the travel outfitter founded by Sarah and Jacob Dusek in 2024, has unveiled its first-ever sustainable safari eco-lodge experience, Few & Far Luvhondo. Spanning 247,105 acres in the Soutpansberg Mountains of Limpopo, South Africa, this eco-lodge features six cliffside suites in UNESCO’s Vhembe Biosphere Reserve. The project is a follow-up to the Duseks’ success with Under Canvas, and is designed to deliver a meaningful journey for all ages.

Few & Far Luvhondo combines regenerative tourism, biophilic design, large-scale conservation initiatives and immersive adventures to create a connection between guests, nature and local communities. Central to the experience is Solfari, a solar-powered aerial safari experience spanning nearly five miles, offering views of the wilderness while maintaining a minimal environmental footprint.

Designed by South Africa-based Nicholas Plewman Architects and Ohkre Collective, Few & Far Luvhondo is powered by renewable energy and built with a zero-waste model. The lodge features materials such as heat-treated eucalyptus, sustainably sourced and produced at an on-site facility in collaboration with the company’s manufacturing arm Fyred, reducing its carbon footprint and supporting the local economy.

As a Verra Registered Carbon Project, Few & Far Luvhondo leads a large-scale initiative to regenerate the Soutpansberg Mountains, sequestering over 100,000 tons of carbon annually while creating ecosystems that support local biodiversity. Efforts include reforesting degraded land with native species, removing invasive plants and revitalizing soil to protect endangered wildlife such as leopards, pangolins and rare birds. Starting with nearly 50,000 acres, Few & Far Luvhondo aims to regenerate over 247,105 acres within the next decade, planting trees and shrubs, and sequestering an additional 100,000 tons of carbon annually in an effort to safeguard the future of the region. Equally committed to social impact, Few & Far Luvhondo partners with local farmers, artisans and eco-conscious businesses to create sustainable jobs, provide skills training and promote environmental stewardship. In addition, collaborating with Terraset, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to reducing atmospheric greenhouse gases, the lodge offers a carbon offset program that supports global rewilding efforts while enabling U.S. taxpayers to receive a tax-deductible receipt from their trip’s carbon offset fee.

Few & Far Luvhondo presents an array of activities and excursions, including:

  • Game drives through arid savannahs and subtropical forests to observe leopards, giraffes, kudus, zebras, and over 600 avian species, followed by a sleep-out under the stars on the stargazing deck
  • The “Conservationist for a Day” program, engaging hands-on with biodiversity preservation efforts
  • Guided nature walks and hikes providing up-close encounters with the region’s native species, as well as e-bike rides through rugged terrain leading to a bush dinner experience
  • Guided excursions to Mapungubwe National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and opportunities to track wildlife during the “Samango Monkeys Encounters“
  • The “Young Explorers Program” offers wildlife education for children through guided walks, clay modeling and reptile handling

Guests can enjoy a variety of dining experiences, from multi-course bush dinners and traditional boma braai evenings to cookout breakfasts and sundowners under the stars. Complementing the cuisine is a wine program featuring South African wines from sustainable producers.

Wellness offerings at Few & Far Luvhondo include the meditative labyrinth walk, a peaceful pathway that fosters introspection and mindfulness, complemented by outdoor yoga sessions and guided mindfulness practices. Guests can also relax with rejuvenating massages and facials crafted with locally sourced, organic ingredients at the spa.
