Gourmet Trend: Lufthansa and Mandarin Oriental Partner for Foodies

First class food just got tastier: Lufthansa has entered into an exclusive partnership with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group to bring unique premium menus to First and Business Class in flights departing the U.S.

The menu will feature dishes especially created by award-winning chefs at Mandain Oriental properties in San Francisco, New York and Miami. The new partnership is part of Lufthansa’s “Star Chefs” program, which the airline began 12 years ago and will include this year: Mandarin Oriental, San Francisco Executive Sous Chef Annie Hongkham; Mandarin Oriental, New York Executive Chef Toni Robertson; and Mandarin Oriental, Miami Chef de Cuisine Joel Huff. The First Class menu will consist of five courses, while the Business Class menu will consist of three.

The first menu for 2012, from Mandarin Oriental, San Francisco’s Executive Sous Chef Annie Hongkham, will run in January and February featuring contemporary cuisine with the flavors of Europe and Asia. Sample First Class dishes include: Dungeness Crab and Avocado Salad served with Lemongrass Gazpacho Dressing and Braised Beef Short Ribs accompanied by Fava Bean Purée with Wasabi and Red Cabbage Slaw.
