Belmond Will Run Overnight Rail Service in Ireland

Much of Ireland’s appeal comes from its natural landscape, and now there is an overnight train that will allow visitors to get an up close look at the country's green hills. The Belmond Grand Hibernian will be the first overnight rail service. It will travel from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland.

Belmond owns and operates 40 destination experiences and will provide two-, four, or six- night itineraries on the train. The train will have 10 carriages, 20 cabins and enough room for 40 passengers.

“Ireland offers today’s luxury traveler a rich and diverse cultural experience, with unrivalled scenery and warm hospitality that fit perfectly with Belmond’s offering of enriching and authentic hotel, rail and river cruise experiences,” said John Scott, Belmond president and chief executive officer.

Guests will be able to visit Belfast, Dublin and Cork. There will also be live music and storytelling onboard to entertain guests.

JPA Design created the look for the cabins and interiors, which have Georgian architecture and elements based on the Irish culture.

The rail service plans to begin operating summer 2016.
