Carmel Valley Ranch, the 500-acre resort on California’s central coast, is adding new enhancements to the resort. Take a look.

New Suites — The resort will add 30 indoor-outdoor suites and studios. Rodrigo Vargas Design is designing these new suites, and SB Architects and the Paul Davis Partnership are handling the architecture. The one-bedroom suites are at least 700 square feet with views of the valley and vineyard. Families will appreciate that a selection of the new suites can be configured to create two-bedroom suites with kitchens.

Reimagined Restaurant — The transformation of the ranch restaurant will also be completed this summer. It will have a flexible floor plan with two dining spaces and a 1,500-square-foot terrace to make it easier to enjoy those California evenings. Nice touch: the terrace will have woven wicker chairs and hanging lanterns.

Adult and Wellness Pool — This zero-edge pool is set to be completed in May 2015. The area will have a hot tub, cabanas and an outdoor bar. To get to this new on-site retreat head to the River Ranch activity complex at the base of the resort.

Spa Aiyana — Take relaxation to the next level at the new Blending Bar (set to open in April). This bar is all about a personalized approach to modern apothecary. Guests can choose from 50 scents to create their own scrubs, lotions, body butters and bath soaks. Best part? These products can be used in the spa or bottled up for home-use. Don’t forget to add salt from the resort’s Salt House to your personalized scrubs.

Take full advantage of the vineyard setting with Vineyard Spa-Ing, which will be available in May. Spa Aiyana will introduce an outdoor spa cabana in the pinot noir vineyard, where guests can experience a new treatment.

Traveling with your significant other? Then check out the Starlight Spa Time, where couples enjoy a private spa treatment under the stars, after spa hours. The treatment takes place on a heated wooden deck, and couples will enjoy two glasses of wine and a dessert to share.

Activities — Carmel Ranch will be adding new activities to the resort as well. This May the archery program will begin. Adults and children can take advantage of beginner and intermediate classes. All adult classes are 90 minutes and for ages 13 plus, so the whole family can take the class together. The children's classes are either 60 or 90 minutes (depending on skill level) and are for ages seven to 12. An expanded Equestrian Program will also be added this summer.

For animal lovers both a Butterfly Garden and Bird Watching Program will be added this year. The Butterfly Garden is set to open this summer and will have monarchs, painted ladies, anise swallowtails and Smith’s blues. The Bird Watching Program will begin this April. Guests will go on a guided walk and (hopefully) spot California towhees, California thrashers, wrentits and more.
