AmaWaterways' New AmaMagna Christened in Austria

AmaWaterways has officially christened its newest river cruise ship, the AmaMagna, in a ceremony in Grein, Austria. The ceremony saw guests onboard joining AmaWaterways co-founders Rudi Schreiner and Kristin Karst along with Godmother Samantha Brown, a travel expert and Emmy Award-winning television host, as she officially christened the 23rd ship in the line’s fleet.

In keeping with tradition, a priest blessed the ship and crew while Godmother Brown broke a champagne bottle against AmaMagna’s hull, signifying good luck on the journeys ahead. The new ship was also welcomed by Grein Mayor Rainer Barth and a group of regional government and tourism representatives. Afternoon festivities included speeches by Schreiner, Karst and Brown, along with local entertainment celebrating the Blue Danube Waltz, Sound of Music and Austrian singer Falco. Following regionally inspired cocktails and a gala dinner, there was also a sun deck show with LED performers and fireworks.

AmaWaterways says that the AmaMagna is twice the width of traditional river cruise ships, but with 20 percent more guests to allow for more personal space. More than half of the ship’s 98 staterooms are suites, which have full outside balconies, open seating areas and bathrooms with double sinks and walk-in showers. Six Grand Suites and an Owner’s Suite provide additional amenities, with separate seating areas and bathrooms with spa-like bathtubs.

Also onboard are four restaurants; a cinema; a boutique; and a Zen Wellness Studio with a large exercise area offering group classes in stretching, cardio and core strengthening and spin classes led by a professionally trained Wellness Host. There are also a juice bar and two massage rooms, along with manicure, pedicure and hair services; and a sun deck with a large heated pool, whirlpool and sky bar. All sun deck facilities are accessible via a pop-up elevator serving all four decks.

The AmaMagna also exclusively hosts the cruise line’s Concierge Golf Program, which allows guests to experience four top-level golf courses in Hungary, Slovakia, Austria and Germany during their river cruise. AmaMagna’s itineraries include Romantic Danube, Melodies of the Danube and Christmas Markets on the Danube.
