First Look: Seabourn Venture’s Design Details

Seabourn has revealed the interior design of Seabourn Venture, the first of the line’s two purpose-built expedition ships that embarked on its inaugural voyage in July 2022 to Norway and the Arctic. Led by founder Adam D. Tihany and managing partner Alessia Genova, Seabourn Venture is the third vessel that Tihany Design has fashioned for Seabourn from its New York-based studio.

Each of the 132 oceanfront suites on the ship have such design elements as custom bedside panels with toggle switches, an analog clock and a foldaway reading lamp. Wool blankets are also custom-designed, and couch throws are made of sustainably sourced cashmere. The wardrobe has a “heat jacket,” for drying outdoor parkas speedily, and the bathrooms have a separate shower and bathtub with bronze fittings.

The Expedition Lounge is where guests convene before and after off-ship expeditions. Located on Deck 4, it has two fireplaces producing water-vapor “flames,” a glass partition etched with a vintage map, and a full bar. Custom furniture crafted from wood, wool, leather and fur echoes the quality and craftsmanship of tools and instruments employed by early explorers.

Right next door is the Discovery Center, the classroom of the ship. Its design is inspired by the landscape of Antarctica, incorporating a natural color palette and organic shapes of topography maps against the curves of plush custom seating set before a large screen for immersive lectures and video experiences.

On Seabourn Venture, the sky-lit Atrium decked out in wood and metal finishes has details including rope work and a topography-inspired liquid metal wall treatment. Its diamond-shaped floor pattern and a suspended light fixture emulate traditional instruments used to measure wind.

Also known as “the Mud Room,” the Landing Zone is where guests change, clean and store boots and gear following excursions. The space combines a palette of floor tile, wood and metal details with rivet accents intended to evoke the characteristics of luggage, besides the orange-tinged uniforms of the crew.

The Restaurant on Seabourn Venture merges sports custom-designed dining chairs by Italian furniture manufacturer Roda and a wine display encased in bronze-framed glass. The Colonnade on Deck 5 has buffet stations dressed up with textured tile and white stone countertops, and set beneath a sleek copper ceiling for the feeling of a working kitchen. Pretty cool: Guests can dine outside on the aft deck, home to an infinity-style pool, two jacuzzis and two sculptural showers.

A communal space housing the ship’s concierge, guest services team members and a café, Seabourn Square offers gathering spaces decked out with outward-facing circular concierge desks, scalloped banquettes and lounge chairs by Tihany Design. Extending to the aft deck guests can also use one of the fixed Swarovski telescopes to soak up the views.

The highest indoor viewing point on Seabourn Venture is the Constellation Lounge, offering 270-degree views. Set on the top deck, it makes use of a dark blue and red palette accented by silver and bronze metals, and lighting that generates a shimmering star-like pattern across the ceiling. It also has a bar with velvet banquettes and sling-back chairs by Tihany Design for guests to enjoy the signature Seabourn live piano.

The Bow Lounge on Deck 6 provides the closest access to the water via the foredeck. It is designed to mimic elements of the Captain’s bridge, with expansive windows and interactive monitors displaying information about the day at sea. Large screens project live footage from a drone outside, and smaller touch screens offer a live map and weather information.

The ship’s Spa & Wellness integrates the design concept of a contemporary “floating forest,” with details such as a tree-inspired textured art mural. The fitness center and yoga areas feature an open wall of floor-to-ceiling windows.
